By the Yard It's Hard, Inch by Inch it's a Cinch
The new year is less than a month away. At this time, many of us are reflecting back on our year’s successes and failures as well as doing some strategic planning for our upcoming year. One of the reason many of us do not achieve our goals is because we do not get immediate success and we get discouraged and quit our pursuit of the goal altogether.
Set your goal and then break it down into milestones. Plan to change your habits slowly. Crash diets don’t have great success for a reason, because we try to change too much too soon.
Think of it this way. Do you believe it is possible to improve your habits by 1/10th of 1% in the next 24 hours? Would you commit to improving your habits by 1/10th of 1% in the next 24 hours? And do you believe it is possible to commit to 1/10th of 1% improvement each and every day?
If you continually focus on being just 1/10th of 1% improvement from the previous day, that will result in 2% improvement each month… or 26% improvement by the end of the year. This technique is called the Law of Incremental Improvement.
